Resumen
La hemorragia postparto es considerada una emergencia obstétrica y es una de las cinco principales causas de mortalidad materna a nivel mundial. La mortalidad depende tanto de la salud general de la mujer embarazada así como de los recursos para su tratamiento agudo. La incidencia depende de los criterios utilizados para su diagnóstico. La determinación de la causa e intervención temprana son de gran importancia ya que la mayoría de las muertes por sangrado postparto ocurren dentro de las primeras cuatro horas del puerperio y el monitoreo cercano es indispensable para evaluar y conocer la agresividad de la intervención que se dará a cada paciente.
