Resumen
El Trastorno por Déficit de Atención e Hiperactividad, es una alteración del comportamiento con bases en el neurodesarrollo, es prevalente durante la niñez, sin limitarse a esta. Debido a sus comorbilidades y riesgos asociados, esta afección representa un problema de salud pública. Cuando se trata de la sospecha, diagnóstico y terapéutica del trastorno de déficit atencional e hiperactividad, múltiples reportes se han referido a las diferencias existentes en materia de género. La mayor prevalencia en hombres y sus mayores registros de tratamiento, han elevado la sospecha de una disparidad que puede llegar a impactar negativamente a mujeres que padecen este trastorno. Se mencionan como principales obstáculos asociados al género femenino, la falta de sospecha, diagnósticos tardíos o ausentes y tratamientos no óptimos. La importancia de reconocer estas diferencias radica no solo en, esclarecer la teoría respecto a la patología, sino en brindar a las y los individuos que padecen este trastorno, atención médica y seguimiento de calidad.
