Resumen
El Síndrome de Lemierre es una patología poco frecuente, potencialmente mortal, que se produce por la trombosis venosa que envuelve la vena yugular interna posterior a la infección de vías respiratorias superiores por microorganismos anaerobios gram negativos. La inflamación producida puede provocar émbolos sépticos en otros órganos, como pulmones, tejidos blandos, bazo, hígado y cerebro. Esta condición fue llamada previamente “la enfermedad olvidada” debido a su rareza y a la poca familiaridad de los médicos con la misma. En este artículo se presenta el caso de una paciente femenina de 18 años, sana, en quien posterior a un cuadro agudo de faringoamigdalitis se documenta bacteremia por Fusobacterium nucleatum asociado a trombosis de la vena yugular izquierda y múltiples embolismos sépticos pulmonares.
