Abstract
Budd-Chiari syndrome is classified among rare diseases with an incidence of 0.45 per million. Consists of an obstruction to the hepatic venous flow that is due to multiple etiologies, most commonly a venous thrombosis, generating hepatic congestion with increased portal venous pressure thus producing fibrosis and eventually liver failure. Its management is aimed at reversing the obstruction, improving blood flow and perfusion to preserve organ function.
