Resumen
La varicela es una enfermedad causada por el virus de varicela zóster y es altamente contagiosa. Se manifiesta por medio de un exantema pruriginoso maculopapular, con vesículas y costras. Se presenta principalmente en la infancia y brinda inmunidad para toda la vida. La varicela se presenta mundialmente y tiene un curso autolimitado y benigno en la mayoría de casos, sin embargo si se presenta una primoinfección en el embarazo hay riesgo de a neumonitis materna, síndrome de varicela congénito, varicela neonatal, las cuales presenta un índice de mortalidad del 30%. En la actualidad se cuenta con medidas preventivas, como es la vacuna contra varicela para mujeres en edad fértil, y en casos de mujeres gestantes y neonatos, se cuenta con la inmunoglobulina contra varicela zóster, además del tratamiento con antivirales como aciclovir y valaciclovir.
