Abstract
Subacute thyroiditis is an inflammatory pathology, usually secondary to a viral infection. It presents consists of three phases of thyroid function, including hypothyroidism. Most patients return to euthyroidism, but approximately 15% may remain hypothyroid and require replacement therapy. A 54-year-old male is presented with subacute anterior neck pain and malaise, suppressed TSH and elevated thyroid hormones in whom subacute thyroiditis was diagnosed. In his follow-up, symptomatic hypothyroidism was documented and replacement treatment with levothyroxine was started.
