Abstract

The amniotic membrane is used as a biological dressing in various ophthalmic and dermal pathologies. In this review, the use on skin will be evaluated both in ulcers and in burned patients. This membrane is obtained from the human placenta and, due to its characteristics and composition, allows easy application in the affected area; providing several physiological factors that help in the epithelialization of the wound, it also creates a bactericidal effect, reduces the loss of fluids and proteins, relieves pain in the affected area. It can be used as an autologous graft or protective biological dressing in large injured areas due to its flexibility and transparency, allowing visualization of the wound while providing protection to the area.
