Abstract
Upper Gastrointestinal Bleeding is a very common desease in emergency services and has a high morbidity and mortality mainly in older adults. Is a potentially life-threatening abdominal emergency that remains a common cause of hospitalization usually means a high expense. of resources because its management may involve gastroenterologists, endoscopists, surgeons, transfusions and medications.
Digestive bleeding has traditionally been divided into upper and lower , the ligament of Treitz is commonly used as the point to differentiate the two. Bleeds proximal to the ligament are upper gastrointestinal bleeds, and distal bleeds are lower gastrointestinal bleeds, it can have a varied presentation, such as hematemesis, melena, haematochezia or hypovolemic shock.
