Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a group of metabolic diseases whose common results are hyperglycemia, with classic symptoms (polyuria, polydipsia, otherwise unexplained weight loss), vision problems and susceptibility to infections, ketoacidosis or non-ketoacidotic hyperosmolar syndrome with risk of coma. Chronic hyperglycemia leads to alterations in the secretion and / or action of insulin, in addition it is associated with long- term damage, functional disorders of various tissues and organs.
