Abstract
Cardiovascular disease represents one of the main causes of mortality in postmenopausal women. After menopause, there are many factors that increase the real risk of cardiovascular disease, including smoking, high blood pressure, dyslipidemias, type two diabetes mellitus, age at menarche and menopause, and vasomotor symptoms, in addition, the traditional risk factors of the transition period, such as decreased glucose tolerance and endothelial dysfunction. Also, other factors are included, such as primary ovarian dysfunction and surgical menopause, which usually advance all the physiological processes of a natural menopause, resulting in a significant increase in cardiovascular risk.
