Abstract

Type 2 diabetes mellitus is characterized as a chronic disease of a progressive nature, with a state of hyperglycemia and varying degrees of insulin deficiency and resistance. Education and support for diabetes self-control are critical to prevent acute complications and reduce the risk of long-term complications. Insulinization therapy has been an effective aid to improve the long-term control and quality of life of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. There are two large groups of insulins that are human insulins and insulin analogues. The former has determined to be an effective and less expensive option, for this reason doctors should be familiar with its use. They can use various schemes for insulin, the basal scheme is the one that has the greatest reduction in glycemic levels and lower risk of hypoglycemia. It is also simple which facilitates the adherence of patients to treatment.
