Abstract

Acute kidney injury can be defined by various criteria, such as an increase in serum creatinine 1.5 times over the reference value after the use of contrast media. Contrast media are solutes of different osmolalities, which are used to perform various medical procedures. The incidence of this disease frequently varies from various factors, such as factors specific to each patient, dose of contrast medium, route of administration of the contrast, among others. The pathophysiological mechanisms involved in acute kidney injury are multifactorial and have not yet been fully identified, therefore, it is important to perform a good medical history and physical examination to identify this population at risk and case measures such as nephroprotection. In turn, it is important for all doctors to know the potentially nephrotoxic drugs and their proper management with patients at risk, since once the contrast-induced nephropathy is established, there is no effective treatment and patients can progress to various difficulties, worsening the prognosis. in the short and long term.
