Abstract
Acute pancreatitis in pregnancy has different etiopathogenesis, however its main cause is biliary origin, usually follow by alcoholic and hyperlipidic causes. Risk factors associated are related to its etiology, though multiparity and advanced maternal age are related. All patients present acute persistent pain in superior abdomen. It can radiate to the back, relieves with flexion of the torso and it can be accompanied by fever and vomits. Diagnosis is based on Atlanta's criteria, and it requires two positive criteria to confirm pancreatitis. Among the radiologic studies, the Ultrasound is used mainly for lithiasis, other studies are the Axial computerized tomography and the Magnetic resonance. These, besides being diagnostic, also use the Ranson, Apache and Balthazar’s criteria for severity matters. Treatment is based in fluids, proper nutrition and analgesia, some case require antibiotic therapy or even surgery to solve. If it’s not being correctly treated, it could generate maternal and fetal deaths.
