Abstract
Migraine is a common medical condition that affects millions of people around the world. Although in most cases migraine can be managed with medication and lifestyle changes, it is important to identify the red flags.
Migraine red flags are symptoms or warning signs that may indicate the presence of a more serious underlying cause in migraineurs. These symptoms are important to recognize as they may require further diagnostic testing to rule out other diseases or serious neurological disorders.
Among the types of migraine "red flags" are focal neurological symptoms, headaches of recent onset in the elderly, headaches that worsen with physical exertion, headaches associated with fever, among others.
It is important to note that, if migraine "red flags" occur, a neurology specialist should be seen for a complete evaluation and to determine if additional diagnostic tests are necessary. In this way, an accurate diagnosis can be established, and appropriate treatment provided for migraine and any other underlying conditions.
