Abstract
Diaphragmatic lesions are a clinical pathological entity that is not very frequent and is often difficult to diagnose in an emergency service. The diaphragm is a muscular aponeurotic barrier that divides the thoracic and abdominal cavities; it is the most important muscle of respiration. In most cases, they are due to high-energy closed traumas or penetrating traumas, with an average age of 35 years and more frequent in men. Among the important clinical symptoms acutely are chest pain, epigastric pain, and peristaltic sounds in the chest, and chronic (late) dyspnea, tachycardia, fever, pulmonary field dullness, among others. To establish the diagnosis of diaphragmatic injury, it is necessary to take a detailed history of the patient about the trauma mechanism, physical examination, and complete with imaging techniques. Surgical resolution is the method of choice for managing these injuries.
