Abstract

Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID) is an infection of the organs of a women’s reproductive system. It can be reduced with early treatment of cervicitis and lower genital tract infections. Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are associated with PID, but vaginal anaerobic microorganisms may also be disease cause, therefore, antibiotic coverage for these pathogens should be considered for women with severe symptoms or pelvic abscesses.
