Resumen
En la Diabetes Mellitus tipo 1, la terapia intensiva con insulina es la primera línea de tratamiento. Los inhibidores del cotransportador sodio glucosa – 2 son fármacos con un mecanismo de acción no insulínico que se han estudiado en estos pacientes como primer medicamento vía oral para la enfermedad. Se realizó una revisión de estudios originales que analizaran el papel de éstos fármacos en coadyuvancia con insulina para el manejo de la diabetes mellitus tipo 1 en adultos, con el propósito de determinar su eficacia y serguridad. Los resultados de esta revisión incluyeron una disminución estable de la hemoglobina A glucada, pérdida de peso y disminución en la dosis diaria de insulina, con un aumento en la incidencia de cetoacidosis diabética.
